Preschool - Academics

The preschool program is designed to foster the growth of all aspects of each child's development.

  • Preschoolers grow socially/emotionally in becoming confident and competent as they learn about themselves and how they relate to other people, how to follow established rules and routines, and how to be empathetic and get along with others.

  • Activities that nurture the development of gross motor and fine motor control help children to grow in independence and self-esteem. All preschoolers participate in Creative Movement classes in addition to the activities they do with their classroom teachers.

  • The preschool program offers a literacy rich environment for each child that encourages the development of expressive and receptive language. Becoming a good listener, being able to express thoughts coherently, at first orally, and then through written expression, as well as building the foundation skills essential to becoming a confident reader are all components of our language arts curriculum.

  • Math, Social Studies, and Science activities provide opportunities for children to experiment, to problem solve, and to strengthen their common knowledge base. Preschoolers learn about the world around them, and apply that knowledge in new and different ways as they compare, contrast, count, sort, classify, and measure.

  • A strong fine arts curriculum taught by specialty teachers in art, music, and drama enhances each child's growth. Specialty teachers also instruct students in computers and library/storytime.

  • Most importantly, children discover a love for learning as they develop the skills essential for working and playing together cooperatively in group- instructed settings.
