Philosophy Our athletic program is designed to complement the academic, artistic, and social programs we offer at Saint Francis. We are striving to develop well-rounded young adults. Athletics is a learning situation that affords us the opportunity to reach for that goal.
This unique additional learning situation allows coaches to reinforce and, in some cases, introduce concepts presented through the general school curriculum. Concepts such as teamwork, good sportsmanship, camaraderie, time management, discipline, problem solving, commitment, setting and striving towards reachable goals, learning from mistakes, personal and group sacrifices and physical fitness are all examples of education that takes place in the athletic setting.
The philosophy of our JV programs is to develop skills, teach team concepts and prepare athletes for future varsity competition. All players should expect to receive playing time, although that playing time may not be spread equally. At the varsity level, playing time will not be guaranteed. The emphasis will be on fielding competitive teams. The coaching staff will determine playing time.
Participation in athletics is a privilege; it is not a right. This privilege is earned by satisfying the standards set by Saint Francis and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). Athletes must continually earn this privilege by showing commitment, dedication and good attitude. The athletic department is a highly visible representative of the school. As a part of the athletic department, athletes are highly visible as well. For this reason athletes are expected to adhere to the highest standards of ethics, conduct and sportsmanship.
