Middle School Winter Sports Update
Saint Francis Middle School Winter Sports Update –
The cold winter weather has not affected the Knights’ hot streak in the sporting world. As the winter season comes to a close, let’s take a moment to celebrate the successes of our winter sports teams.
Wrestling has continued their strong tradition under first year head coach Tyler Daniell. They recently took third in the NAML Championships, as they were edged out by Mount Paran and Walker. Eighth graders Will Smith and Christopher Recht won their weight classes. The “Knights in Tights” finished their season with a strong performance at the Chattahoochee Duels at Woodward.
The Knights’ swim team has lost only once this season. They hosted the NAML Championships on February 1st at the Cobb Aquatic Center. Once again, the Knights proved their dominance in the pool. The boys won first place and the girls won second place, giving them a third straight team championship!
On the hardwood, the Knights’ basketball teams are a combined 38-5 this season.
The girls’ A team has lost only once to a tough Ridgeview Charter team. They enter the MAAC tournament as the #2 overall seed.
The girls’ B team continued to improve over the course of the season. With only two losses, they have shown grit and determination throughout the season.
Undefeated on the season, the 7th grade boys’ basketball team enters post-season play as the #1 seed. They hope to bring home a championship this season.
The 8th grade boys’ basketball team has only tasted defeat twice this season. Both losses have come against a stout Mt. Pisgah team, with the last loss coming on a buzzer beater. They will begin the post-season as the #2 seed. They hope for a chance at redemption in the finals against Mt. Pisgah.
Our basketball teams would not be as successful without the spirited support from our cheerleaders.
Regardless of the final results, with nearly half of the Middle School students participating in a winter sport, the season has been a resounding success!
