Marc Weiss, Athletic Director
Saint Francis Middle School Athletics strives to develop well-rounded young adults by utilizing athletic experience to enhance each student-athlete’s total educational experience. Concepts such as teamwork, good sportsmanship, camaraderie, time management, discipline, problem solving, setting reachable goals, learning from mistakes, personal and group sacrifice, and physical fitness are all examples of education that takes place in the athletic setting.
Coaching at Saint Francis Middle School begins with a commitment to teach what it means to win and lose with respect. Having fun is the central theme in every middle school sport and displaying good sportsmanship is the expectation of each of our coaches and student-athletes. Our students’ performance in the classroom is just as important as that during competitive play. For this reason, Saint Francis Middle School consistently encourages sportsmanship, good study habits, and positive decision making.
The Middle School Athletic Program coordinates 22 teams in 14 sports on the Middle School’s 24 acre campus; which includes a 4 lane pool, 2 gymnasiums, a baseball and softball field, a football and soccer field, a track, and a practice field, in addition, the Chattahoochee River running path adjacent to campus provides a unique course for our cross-country team to practice. Many of life’s lessons can be learned from participating in athletics, we encourage each student to participate in at least one sport per year.
Each player makes a commitment to their team. With that in mind St. Francis ensures athletes are guaranteed a study hall period each school day. Opportunities abound each season, fall sports include, 5th/6th grade football, 7th/8th grade football, football cheerleading, volleyball, softball, and co-ed cross country; winter sports include, 7th grade boys basketball, 8th grade boys basketball, 8th grade girls basketball, basketball cheerleading, co-ed swimming, and boys wrestling; spring sports include, 8th grade baseball, and 7 grade baseball, golf, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls soccer, and co-ed track & field.
