On April 19th a presentation on Safe Driving was given by Mr.Norman Miller, a local attorney. Mr. Miller’s presentation was part of a nationwide effort during the month of April 2012, which is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The goals of this effort are to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and help our students make safer driving decisions.
During the presentation, Mr. Miller spoke to our students about the many types of driver distractions and discussed their experiences with distracted driving. Mr. Miller also explored strategies for speaking up when someone is a passenger and their driver starts to practice unsafe driving behaviors. Students should be aware of the consequences of distracted driving and understand how we can drive safer by keeping cell phones with us for emergencies, but not using them while driving, texting or making and receiving calls.
Thank you to the Saint Francis Counseling Department for coordinating this very important presentation.
What a motivation THAT turned out to be! This year’s Girls Squad finished as NAML Champions and the Boys team took home the 3rd place trophy. However, who ever said swimming wasn’t a TEAM sport? In order to award an OVERALL NAML TEAM Champion, the COMBINED performances of BOTH the Girls and Boys teams are tallied.
This year, we are very proud to announce that the St. Francis Middle School Swim Team is the OVERALL North Atlanta Metro League Champions! Congratulations to all of our swimmers, the coaches, and the parent volunteers, who make our Swim Program so successful!
Our Wrestling Program had another outstanding year and REPEATED as Champions of the North Atlanta Metro League! This event, hosted for the first time on our Roswell Campus, saw teams from five (5) other NAML schools converge for an exciting day of grappling on the mats. When the dust settled, it was the St. Francis teams taking their place atop the podium to receive Championship trophies in both the “A” and “B” Divisions.
One week later, the wrestlers headed down to Woodward Academy to wrap up their season at one of Atlanta’s most prestigious scholastic wrestling tournaments, The North Chattahoochee Championships. Sixteen schools from all over metro-Atlanta attended this year’s tournament and our team finished in 3rd place overall, only Lovett (Runners-Up) and eventual Tournament Champions, Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy finished ahead of our boys in this highly competitive event. Congrats to Head Coach Eric Pawlish and his fine staff of coaches, Bill Bailey, Lawrence Smith, and Lance Ancar for all they do throughout the long winter season to keep our boys focused and determined to improve their performance each week!
Our St. Francis elementary school chorus sang The National Anthem at the Gwinnett Gladiators Hockey game on February 12th. Money raised from ticket sales was donated to Ruth Ministry, a charity chosen to honor the middle school administrative assistant Kathy Shonkwiler. Special thanks to Mrs. Ballance, music teacher, for organizing this special event.
Congratulations go out to our own Nigel Jackson, winner of the 2012 Naismith Awards Flourish Scholarship. The program is open to all high school basketball players in the Atlanta Tipoff Club Region.

Congratulations to Nigel and his family on this prestigious accomplishment!
Riders from 5 states gathered at the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center on Johns Island in Charleston, SC this past weekend for the Zone 4 Equestrian Competition. Our very own Katelyn Oliver, a Junior, was there along with Coach Amber DeSantis to represent St. Francis High School.
The competition was comprised of all the top qualified riders in their respective divisions from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina. Riders draw horses from a hat. Riding an unfamiliar horse is a challenge and adds difficulty to the competition. The rider must show the ability to ride and work with a new horse while managing the nerves of competition.
Congratulations to Katelyn!
Alex Alter, Nick McKinnon and Caroline Smith each entered photographs in the competition. Senior Nick McKinnon, won 1st and an Honorable Mention for his photographs, Junior, Caroline Smith a Junior won Second place.
Congratulations to Junior, Myranda Johnson, for being the only Atlanta area student accepted to Franklin and Marshall College’s Summer Program. Myranda will be attending Franklin and Marshall for three weeks this summer to take a college level course. Way to go, Myranda! We are very proud of you!
